MY STORY

Channeling to Chaewon Chronicle...

Salutations! (That’s just a fancy way of saying hello)

I am a student at the University of Michigan, majoring in Computer Science and Linguistics, also minoring in Writing.

I am currently obsessed with musical theatre! My two favorite shows are Next to Normal and Come From Away. I stream the former for stabilization of my sanity and the latter for restoration of my faith in humanity (and they work all the time.)

Translation is a linguistic equivalent of transposing musical notes to different keys or transforming artworks to different tones. As a proud TCK (Third Culture Kid) I grow a flower named “love for multilingualism” and use a paint made of its petals to depict the world only I can see.

I am enthralled by the theme of “identities stuck in-between.” It is a color of confusion, being a shy shade of purple, yellow, pink, sky blue, white or black when the social norms are red and blue. It is a shade of straying across or running away from both systems, doubting whether they are truly right as they are meant to be and claim to be. My split identities of 채원 and Chaewon and ˈt͡ɕʰɛwʌ̹n (note: they all sound the same) all see different colors and put them on the same palette.

Stay tuned to watch the multilingual world I paint.
